 The Year in Review

The club’s very active Special Interest Groups include:

·       the Mono (Black and White) Group

·       the SCENIC outdoors Group

·       the Themes and Series Group

·       the Image Development Group

·       DCC members offer small group mentoring across a range of subjects

·       The club organises extended photographic outings and workshops

At the February meeting the club conducted a Long Exposure Workshop.  This was well attended and enjoyed by the members who were able to practice long exposure photography in preparation for submissions later in the year.

On February 23rd the SCENIC group hosted a photographic outing at Half Moon Bay.  Members had the opportunity to practice skills from the earlier Long Exposure Workshop.

In April Peter Stone introduced the 2025 DCC Scavenger Hunt.  40 subjects were selected for members to photograph by November.  Subjects were allocated points based on their ‘degree of difficulty’.  The winner, with the most points, will be announced at the December Meeting.

At the April AGM the committee was elected as follows:

On April 27th the SCENIC group hosted a photographic outing at the Botanic Gardens in Melbourne. 

The group enjoyed a walk through the gardens, capturing interesting and colourful images, followed by a pleasant lunch at the gardens Café.

The VAPS Convention was held in June, at Castlemaine, and was attended by a number of DCC Members.  The group Photographed at Malmsbury and Castlemaine en route to the convention and at Maldon the day after.

VAPS Year bars were provided for Lois Thompson (70years), John Wu (10 Years), Adrian Donoghue (20 years), Val Armstrong (30 years) and Ian Game (35 years).

VAPS Meritorious Awards were provided for Bev Dillon, Liz Reen and Lois Thompson.

On July 20th members convened at the Blackburn Hotel for the club’s 70th Anniversary celebrations. Members enjoyed a slide show of old and recent club photos. Guest of honour, Lois Thompson, was presented with her special VAPS medallion for 70 Years Membership.

On August 17th the SCENIC group hosted a photographic outing to the Melbourne CBD.  The group practiced some street photography, photographed in the Block Arcade and visited a Steve McCurry exhibition.

Members attended an Astrological Photography Weekend, commencing October 31st, near Heathcote.  Members photographed the night skies in extreme low light conditions as well as being introduces to local flora and fauna.

On November 30th members convened at the Templestowe Hotel for the club’s End of Year Lunch. 

In December the 2nd edition of the DCC Calendar (for 2026).  100 copies were produced.  Each club member received a free calendar.  The remaining calendars were either gifted to associates of the club or sold.
